Black Wolf Bulletin
September 9, 2022; Issue 1
Dear Lakeside Families,
We are off to an amazing start this year! Students are doing a great job learning new routines and procedures, meeting new friends and showing kindness and great listening in classrooms! In daily lessons and time dedicated to build a school family and work on social and emotional learning, classrooms are learning more about member of the classroom, discovering commonalities, and working together to achieve classroom goals that they have set.
I want to thank you for coming to Open House and welcome you back for another family night event scheduled for Thursday, October 6th! The finer details of this event are in the works and will be shared out within the next two weeks. Please mark your calendars to attend on Thursday, October 6th from 5:00-6:30 pm!
During the first two weeks of school, we have a fire and tornado drill to review and practice procedures. Both drills have been completed. Ask your child if they remember our rally point for a fire drill and if they remember their location to take shelter during a tornado. It's a great time to review procedures at home for these emergencies. As you may have already read, we continue to reflect on drop off and pick up procedures to ensure the safety of all students. We ask that all families come to Door #1 in the front of the building to sign in and get a visitor badge if they would like to be on the playground or in the building when children are present. Thank you for helping to keep our school safe!
Finally, I'd like to invite you to the first PTO meeting on Monday, September 12 at 6pm in the library. The agenda is linked here for you to view.
We are so happy to be serving your children and family. If you have any celebrations, questions, or concerns, please reach out!
Free Meals for All Lakeside Students!
Lakeside learned just before school started that we have qualified as a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school. What does that mean? Every student at Lakeside can receive a free breakfast and a free lunch each school day, regardless of your family's free/reduced application status!
For families who qualify, or think they may qualify, we encourage you to still complete the application! Snack milk (served in the classroom) is not part of the CEP program, so if you don't have an approved application on file, your child's snack milk will still be charged. You can apply in the Parent Portal, or contact the office for a paper copy!
Please note that milk taken with cold lunch is charged for all students, regardless of their family's free/reduced status.

Picture Day - September 21st!
Lakeside's picture day is September 21st. We will once again be utilizing Network Photography for our school pictures and yearbook. Please feel free to use the Lakeside Elementary prepay link to order your pictures ahead of time. Pictures are typically delivered to the school 3 weeks after picture day. If you do NOT order pictures online, don't worry! You can use that link to order any time through the school year and have the pictures delivered to your home. If you would like a paper order form, you can download it HERE. Your student can bring the completed order form to school on Picture Day, and hand it to the photographer.
Not in school on picture day, or not happy with your first picture? No problem! Picture retake day will be on October 26th.
Food Service Updates
FREE AND REDUCED MEAL APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR will be available online on the Infinite Campus Parent Portal in mid-July and will also be mailed out in the US mail to all households in mid-July. Please return your completed application to the Food Services Office, Oshkosh West High School, 375 N. Eagle St., Oshkosh, WI 54902, or the Elementary School Office your child attends on or before the first day of school.
LIMITED LUNCH SERVICE AT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS are used when a student is very negative in their lunch account and the family has been notified by Food Service that service will cease if the account isn’t brought current. If the student doesn’t bring a sack lunch or cash to pay for the lunch the Food Service Department will allow the student to eat a limited lunch. The limited lunch will consist of 2 pieces of bread and a peanut butter cup (as the entrée) and then will be allowed to have the fruit, veggies and milk offered and the account will get charged accordingly for the limited lunch. They will NOT be able to have their choice of an entrée.
HAVE LUNCH WITH YOUR CHILD All Elementary Schools and the Food Services Department invites parents of school-age children to have lunch with their child any school day. Please let the school office know in advance so we can make sure a lunch gets ordered for you. You may bring money with you to pay for the meal or the adult lunch can be charged to your students Food Service Account.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN THE SCHOOL FOOD SERVICE DEPARTMENT
The food service department is seeking individuals to work for our department serving breakfast and / or lunch. The majority of these positions available are 1.5 - 2 hours in length and are during the breakfast and lunch service time, which varies with the school. Opportunities for longer shifts and additional hours may also be available. Please see the WECAN at https://wecan.education.wisc.edu website for employment opportunities along with applying for positions within the Food Service Department.
Please call 424-4936 for any questions. Thank you!
