Lakeside
Elementary School
Black Wolf Bulletin
September 5, 2025; Issue 1
Dear Lakeside Families,
We are so excited to have our students back in the building! These first days of school have been filled with energy, joy, and learning as our students work hard to learn expectations and get settled into their classroom routines. It’s wonderful to see them adjusting so quickly and beginning the year with such positivity.
If you are looking for a great way to stay connected and support our school, consider joining our PTO. The PTO plays a vital role in building community and providing resources that directly benefit our students and staff. We encourage you to reach out, attend a meeting, or volunteer for upcoming events. You’ll find it a rewarding way to make an impact. Our first meeting is September 9th from 3:00-4:00 in the Lakeside Library.
Finally, we have some exciting news to share about our playground. The finishing touches are being completed, and we are hopeful that our students will be able to enjoy what we believe will be the most amazing playground by next week. We can’t wait to see the smiles and laughter as they explore this new space.
Thank you for your continued support and for being such an important part of our school family.

Free Meals for All Lakeside Students!
Lakeside is qualified as a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school. What does that mean? Every student at Lakeside can receive a free breakfast and a free lunch each school day, regardless of your family's free/reduced application status!
For families who qualify, or think they may qualify, we encourage you to still complete the application! Snack milk (served in the classroom) is not part of the CEP program, so if you don't have an approved application on file, your child's snack milk will still be charged. You can apply in the Parent Portal, or contact the office for a paper copy!

Picture Day - September 17th!
Lakeside's picture day is September 17th. We will once again be utilizing Network Photography for our school pictures and yearbook. Please feel free to use the Lakeside Elementary prepay link to order your pictures ahead of time. Pictures are typically delivered to the school 3 weeks after picture day. If you do NOT order pictures online, don't worry! You can use that link to order any time through the school year and have the pictures delivered to your home. If you would like a paper order form, you can download it HERE. Your student can bring the completed order form to school on Picture Day, and hand it to the photographer.
Not in school on picture day, or not happy with your first picture? No problem! Picture retake day will be on October 22nd.
Arrival Procedures
Due to the location of Lakeside being on a major highway, children are not allowed to walk or ride bikes to school. Parents are encouraged to have their children ride the bus to ensure they will arrive at the same time as the
other students. Buses will unload on the east side of the building for arrival and dismissal. Buses will be unloaded at Lakeside at 7:15 a.m. by a recess supervisor. Upon arrival at school, children will go to the
playground. After school, buses will be loaded by 2:50 p.m.
When dropping off students at Lakeside, please drive in the north entrance. Park in a space along the north side (facing the building) near Door #10 and walk your child to the supervisor near the playground. Adults are not allowed on the playground unless they have checked into the office and are wearing a badge.
Dismissal Procedures
Busing is the way most Lakeside students get home at the end of the day. If you want to pick up your child(ren), please park in a stall, facing the school; exit your vehicle and notify the staff outside who you are picking up. Students in grades K-3 will exit through Door #11. Students in grades 4-5 will exit through Door #10.
If a child is not picked up by 2:50 p.m., we will make a phone call home or to an emergency contact.
A phone call to the secretary or an email to the secretary and teacher is necessary if:
● Your child’s normal after school plan is changing
● Your child is being picked up by another parent
● Your child is being picked up by someone other than their parent
● Your child is planning to ride another bus
● Your child is staying for an afterschool activity
*Telling your child is not sufficient. You must provide written notification or contact the office preferably before noon or as soon as possible so the proper individuals may be made aware of the special plans.

It's That Time of Year!
The playground can be wet, muddy, and spills can happen any time of the year. Every day, students come to the health office needing a change of clothes—and we could really use your help! 👕👖👚
Here’s how you can help:
-
Send an extra change of clothes with your child (even the big kids!). Clothes can stay in their backpack or locker until needed. Everyone feels more comfortable in their own clothes, so this is a great way to be prepared. 👚👖
-
If your child borrows clothes from the office, please wash and return them quickly so they’re ready for the next student who might need them. 👕
-
Do you have outgrown pants or shirts you can donate? We especially need sizes 5 through 14/16. Please send any donations to the office! 👖👕
If your child has a fall or spill and we don’t have the right size available, we may need to call you to bring a change of clothes to school so they can get through the day comfortably.
Thank you for your support—we really appreciate it!
Volunteering
If you are interested in volunteering by helping in your child's classroom or chaperoning a field trip, you must have a pre-approved volunteer application on file before the volunteering event. If you HAVE NOT filled out a volunteer application please click HERE to begin the application process. If you are unsure of your volunteer status, please email Kylene Schrage. All verified backgrounds checks are good for three years, and are effective for all OASD schools. If you have any questions about this process, please contact our school office at 920.424.0131 or kylene.schrage@oshkosh.k12.wi.us
Important!: Once you have completed your application, let the office know so that we can request that the application be processed; this does not happen automatically, and can take up to 48 hours, so please plan accordingly!
A Note From The Health Office-Kristin Mike, LPN and Mikaila Shear, RN
FRIENDLY REMINDER: When calling your child's school to report their absence, please relay the symptoms they are having to the school office so that the District can continue to monitor illness symptoms in the school setting and within classrooms.
Hello Lakeside families and staff,
Happy Fall, y'all! As the weather starts dipping down, leaves start changing colors, and football is back in season, it's that time of year we start seeing and increase of cold and flu-like symptoms. We want to help you remain HEALTHY and strong to check off ALL of the adventures on your Fall Bucket List. The number one way to prevent the spread of illness is with good hand washing! Below are some ways we can help minimize the spread of illness in our schools:
- Teaching and reminding good hand washing to our students/children
- Teaching and reminding to cover coughs and sneezes (in your elbow...NOT hands)
- Utilize a mask IF comfortable, but not required (to protect yourself or others)
- Sanitizing common and high touch surfaces in your classroom and home routinely
- Stay home if you have a fever, vomiting/diarrhea, severe cough, or generally feeling unwell
- Get plenty of rest and water
Hand Washing topic is a great link to utilize to help remind ourselves and students /children of good hand washing etiquette! With your help, we can work to keep ourselves and others healthy!
