Dear Lakeside Families,

Lakeside has been a busy place full of learning in the past two weeks! From phonics lessons about learning each others' names in kindergarten to science observations of how mold grows in fifth grade, students have been active in learning and highly engaged! As always, parents are more than welcome to visit our school to see learning in action! We also love having volunteers in our building. There is a background check form that needs to be filled out annually that you can access here. Please let your child's teacher know if you have availability to volunteer!

We are excited about our upcoming Family Engagement Night on Thursday, October 5th. We have many fun activities for your family to learn about and persist through together! PTO will be providing a hot dog and water for each person attending family night. The Brewing Futures truck will also be on-site and serving up all sorts of yummy treats! We hope to see you there!

It is a pleasure serving your children and your family here at Lakeside! Have a wonderful weekend!

Fall Family Night, October 5th from 5:00-7:00pm!

Come join us for Lakeside’s Fall Family Night on Thursday, October 5th from 5-7:00pm!
We are naming this event Persisting through Problems.  STEAM activities and challenges will be set up for families to work through together!  This is a free-flowing event; we look forward to seeing you for this fun night of problem solving.
You will have an opportunity to visit the Scholastic Book Fair.  You can also purchase food from the new OASD Brewing Futures Mobile CAFE truck! The PTO will be sponsoring a free hot dog from the food truck for each child.

Scholastic Book Fair Coming Soon!

The Lakeside PTO is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair that will be held in the Media Center October 2nd - 6th. The sale will run during student lunch hours (10:50am - 12:05pm) daily, and also from 5 - 7 pm on October 5th, which is our Fall Family Night.

This year, say goodbye to cash and hello to eWallet - your child's digital payment account. Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases. Anyone can contribute! Share each child's eWallet so friends and family can add funds and give your kids more books to enjoy!

If you can't make it to the Fair, then shop at our school's Online Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school.

Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping!

Volunteering RemindersWhat Volunteer Opportunities are Available? - Ask a Librarian Delaware

As a reminder, if you are interested in volunteering by helping in your child's classroom or chaperoning a field trip, you must have a pre-approved volunteer application on file before the volunteering event. These applications are to be filled out each school year, but then are good for the remainder of the year, and are effective for all OASD schools. You can find the application HERE.

Important!: Once you have completed your application, let the office know so that we can request that the application be processed; this does not happen automatically, and can take up to 48 hours, so please plan accordingly!

A Note from the Health OfficeKristin Mike, LPN and Mikaila Peterson, RN

Hello Lakeside families and staff,
Happy Fall, y'all! As the weather starts dipping down, leaves start changing colors, and football is back in season, it's that time of year we start seeing and increase of cold and flu-like symptoms.  We want to help you remain HEALTHY and strong to check off ALL of the adventures on your Fall Bucket List. The number one way to prevent the spread of illness is with good hand washing! Below are some ways we can help minimize the spread of illness in our schools:
  • Teaching and reminding good hand washing to our students/children
  • Teaching and reminding to cover coughs and sneezes (in your elbow...NOT hands)
  • Utilize a mask IF comfortable, but not required (to protect yourself or others)
  • Sanitizing common and high touch surfaces in your classroom and home routinely
  • Stay home if you have a fever, vomiting/diarrhea, severe cough, or generally feeling unwell
  • Get plenty of rest and water

Hand Washing topic is a great link to utilize to help remind ourselves and students /children of good hand washing etiquette!  With your help, we can work to keep ourselves and others healthy!

A Note from the Office:

All reports of a student absence must go through the office. If your child(ren) are sick multiple days, please let us know each day they are absent.   All communication regarding your student's attendance (appointments, late arrival, early departure, etc.) must go to the office. You can copy in your child's teacher in the email or the office will then pass this information on to the classroom teacher.  Our school secretary's email is: and the school phone number is 920.424.0131. Thank you for your help with this important communication.

Free Meals for All Lakeside Students!

Lakeside learned just before school started that we have qualified as a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school. What does that mean? Every student at Lakeside can receive a free breakfast and a free lunch each school day, regardless of your family's free/reduced application status!

For families who qualify, or think they may qualify, we encourage you to still complete the application! Snack milk (served in the classroom) is not part of the CEP program, so if you don't have an approved application on file, your child's snack milk will still be charged. You can apply in the Parent Portal, or contact the office for a paper copy!

Please note that milk taken with cold lunch is charged for all students, regardless of their family's free/reduced status.
