Dear Lakeside Families,

Lakeside has been filled with energy and learning during these first few weeks of school. Classrooms are alive with discussion and exploration in all subject areas, giving students meaningful opportunities to grow each day.

We are always glad to welcome families into our building to see the amazing learning in action. Volunteers are also a valued part of our school community. If you are interested in helping, please complete the background check form found HERE and share your availability with your child’s teacher.

Looking ahead, parent-teacher conferences will be held on September 25 and September 30, click HERE to sign up. These conferences provide an important time for teachers and families to connect, celebrate student progress, and partner together to support each child’s success. Strong communication between school and home is key, and we look forward to these conversation

Sincerely,
Mr. King, Principal

Attendance Office InformationAll reports of a student absence must go through the office. If your child(ren) are sick multiple days, please let us know each day they are absent.   All communication regarding your student's attendance (appointments, late arrival, early departure, etc.) must go to the office. You can copy in your child's teacher in the email or the office will then pass this information on to the classroom teacher. If you need to call your student(s) in for the day, please call the main office at 920-424-0131. If you need to leave a voicemail, please state your student(s) full name, grade, reason for absence and also any symptoms your student may be experiencing. You can also email the school secretary at: kylene.schrage@oshkosh.k12.wi.us for any absences. If you need to pick up your student early for an any reason, please notify the main office ahead of time, so we can make sure to have your student ready for you. As always, please feel free to reach out to the main office with any questions or concerns you may have. Thank you for your help.

Arrival Procedures

Due to the location of Lakeside being on a major highway, children are not allowed to walk or ride bikes to school. Parents are encouraged to have their children ride the bus to ensure they will arrive at the same time as the
other students. Buses will unload on the east side of the building for arrival and dismissal. Buses will be unloaded at Lakeside at 7:15 a.m. by a recess supervisor. Upon arrival at school, children will go to the
playground. After school, buses will be loaded by 2:50 p.m.

When dropping off students at Lakeside, please drive in the north entrance. Park in a space along the north side (facing the building) near Door #10 and walk your child to the supervisor near the playground.  Adults are not allowed on the playground unless they have checked into the office and are wearing a badge.

Volunteering

If you are interested in volunteering by helping in your child's classroom or chaperoning a field trip, you must have a pre-approved volunteer application on file before the volunteering event. If you HAVE NOT filled out a volunteer application please click HERE to begin the application process. If you are unsure of your volunteer status, please email Kylene Schrage. All verified backgrounds checks are good for three years, and are effective for all OASD schools. If you have any questions about this process, please contact our school office at 920.424.0131 or kylene.schrage@oshkosh.k12.wi.us

Important!: Once you have completed your application, let the office know so that we can request that the application be processed; this does not happen automatically, and can take up to 48 hours, so please plan accordingly!

It's That Time of Year!

The playground can be wet, muddy, and spills can happen any time of the year. Every day, students come to the health office needing a change of clothes—and we could really use your help! πŸ‘•πŸ‘–πŸ‘š

Here’s how you can help:

  • Send an extra change of clothes with your child (even the big kids!). Clothes can stay in their backpack or locker until needed. Everyone feels more comfortable in their own clothes, so this is a great way to be prepared. πŸ‘šπŸ‘–

  • If your child borrows clothes from the office, please wash and return them quickly so they’re ready for the next student who might need them. πŸ‘•

  • Do you have outgrown pants or shirts you can donate? We especially need sizes 5 through 14/16. Please send any donations to the office! πŸ‘–πŸ‘•

If your child has a fall or spill and we don’t have the right size available, we may need to call you to bring a change of clothes to school so they can get through the day comfortably.

Thank you for your support—we really appreciate it!

Dismissal Procedures

Busing is the way most Lakeside students get home at the end of the day. If you want to pick up your child(ren), please park in a stall, facing the school; exit your vehicle and notify the staff outside who you are picking up. Students in grades K-3 will exit through Door #11. Students in grades 4-5 will exit through Door #10.
If a child is not picked up by 2:50 p.m., we will make a phone call home or to an emergency contact.

A phone call to the secretary or an email to the secretary and teacher is necessary if:
● Your child’s normal after school plan is changing
● Your child is being picked up by another parent
● Your child is being picked up by someone other than their parent
● Your child is planning to ride another bus
● Your child is staying for an afterschool activity

*Telling your child is not sufficient. You must provide written notification or contact the office preferably before noon or as soon as possible so the proper individuals may be made aware of the special plans.
