Dear Lakeside Families,

Dear Lakeside Families,

Thank you to the families that have joined us for our first night of conferences, and we look forward to those families joining us on November 7th. If you have yet to sign up and would like to, please check for the email we sent out or contact our main office.

As is Wisconsin weather, we never know what Mother Nature is going to bring next. While we've been enjoying some incredibly warm days recently, we also know that the cold is coming. Please remember to have your child(ren) dressed for the weather (pants, jackets, hats, and gloves). If there is snow, we require students to wear boots and snow pants to play on the equipment and the grass.

A huge thank you to our PTO and all of our families that helped make our "Send a Sip" day possible. We all enjoyed such wonderful drinks from Tom's Coffee Truck on Oct 30th. For those of you helping make dinner possible on the 7th for conferences, we really appreciate that as well. We are a special community here at Lakeside and your partnership is such a big reason why. THANK YOU!

Sincerely,
Mr. King, Principal

COED YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE

We are committed to providing you and your child a positive youth sports experience that will hopefully develop a passion and a lifelong enjoyment of the game . We are firm believers that family balance is essential to building strong youth in our community and by following a core set of values, we are confident that your child will be asking you for more.

Our leagues will be about skill development, building confidence, friendships and teamwork. 9 out of 10 kids say having fun is their #1 reason to play sports, not winning, and we will follow this model from day 1. Your child can expect to have one scheduled practice per week, and we will strive to have consistent games times and locations so you know what to expect. At no time will your child be expected to travel out of the Oshkosh Area School District.

Pollution Solution

Dear Lakeside Families,

This year Lakeside Elementary will once again be participating in the Trex Recycling for Pollution Solution! This year we have another opportunity if we can recycle 1,000 pounds of recycled plastic film during a 12-month period to qualify to receive a composite bench. We reached this goal last year. I know we can do it again. Please bring in any of the items below so help us reach our goal. Please feel free to bring any of the items listed below! Thank you for all the support to our Pollution Solution team here at Lakeside Elementary. If you have any questions please feel free to email me at Stephanie.hershberge@oshkosh.k12.wi.us

What item could Lakeside Elementary win?

Please remember to send your children to school with warm clothes for inclement weather.  This should include boots, hats, gloves, snow pants and a heavy jacket.  All students will be outside before school, recess, and lunch unless the temperature is below 10 degrees or a wind chill of below zero.

Temperatures and appropriate outside recess wear is:

  • Below 50 degrees-students need a coat
  • Between 50-60 degrees-students need to wear long sleeves
  • 61 degrees and above-students choice (shorts are allowed)

With cold and flu season upon us already, your child may have a sore throat, runny nose, headache etc. and you may want your child to bring cough drops, Tylenol, cough drops, or other medications to school.  All medications need to be brought into the office and given in the office.  Your child should not keep any medications in their backpacks.  All medications need a signed medication form in the office.  If you would like a form to fill out, please call or email the office to send one home with your child.  It only takes a minute to fill out!

Please remind your child to cover their mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, and most importantly...WASH HANDS!!!  Washing hands can prevent the spread of diseases.

Your child should stay home if they have any of these symptoms: 100 degree temp or higher, vomiting, diarrhea, thick mucus from the nose, excessive drowsiness, undiagnosed rash or open sores, pain that interferes with learning such as; earache, red, itchy eyes with discharge, sore throat with difficulty swallowing or a persistent, productive cough.  This helps prevent the spread of illness to others in school.  If you child has any of these symptoms they should stay home and be free from symptoms for 24 hours before returning to school.

FRIENDLY REMINDER: When calling your child's school to report their absence, please relay the symptoms they are having to the school office so that the District can continue to report to the health department accurately.

We Need Your Help!

It's that time of year when the playground gets extra wet, muddy and snowy at times, and spills can happen any time of the year.  We have students coming to the health office every day in need of a change of clothes and we could use your help!  How?

  • Send your child (even the big ones) to school with an extra change of clothes if you are able.  They can live in their backpack, or stay in their locker until needed.  We're always the most comfortable in our own clothes, so this is a great option.
  • If your child does need to borrow clothes from the office for the day, please wash and return the items as quickly as possible so that they can be available for another student in need.
  • Do you have extra pants or shirts that your children have outgrown and can donate to the office?  Please send them in!  We could use shirts and pants in sizes 5 through 14/16.

If your child has a fall or spill resulting in wet clothes at school and we don't have something they can fit in, we may need to call you to bring some to school to get them through the end of the day.  Thanks for your help-we appreciate it!

Volunteering RemindersWhat Volunteer Opportunities are Available? - Ask a Librarian Delaware

As a reminder, if you are interested in volunteering by helping in your child's classroom or chaperoning a field trip, you must have a pre-approved volunteer application on file before the volunteering event. If you DID NOT fill out a volunteer application last year (23-24) please click HERE to begin the application process.  All verified backgrounds checks are good for three years, and are effective for all OASD schools. If you have any questions about this process, please contact our school office at 920.424.0131 or kylene.schrage@oshkosh.k12.wi.us

Important!: Once you have completed your application, let the office know so that we can request that the application be processed; this does not happen automatically, and can take up to 3-4 business days, so please plan accordingly!
