Dear Lakeside Families,

I can't believe we are talking end of the year! We have so much to celebrate from this school year, and you have so much to be proud of with your child. As a way to celebrate all of our accomplishments, take a look at what is to come:

So many great class field trips! We can't wait for you to hear about the fun learning experiences our students had.
Kindergarten students will celebrate "moving on" on Friday, May 30th at 1:30 pm! All guests will need to enter the building through Door #1 and check in at the office. We recommend arriving at least 10 minutes prior to this event in case there is a wait for checking in.
Fifth grade promotion and DARE graduation will take place on Thursday, June 5th at 9:00 am. All guests will need to enter the building through Door #1 and check in at the office. We recommend arriving at least 10 minutes prior to this event.
Field Day events are scheduled for the afternoon of Thursday, June 5th, from 12:30-2:30. Please be on the lookout for a Sign Up Genius to volunteer for this afternoon of fun!

**If you have any items that have been lost, we encourage you to come in and visit our Lost & Found table! We donate all items at the end of the school year, so please check before June 3!

Specialist Updates

Art Update - Ms. Wollangk

Art Update from Mrs. Wollangk:

5th Grade - 5th graders are using pattern skills for printmaking using their own stamp creation with an added perspective for our abstract sky..

4th Grade - Our bowls have gone home and our last project is a prickly subject as we learn new techniques with oil pastels.

3rd Grade - We were inspired by the weavers of Ghana and created our own symbolic paper Kente Cloth weavings.

2nd Grade - Second graders are in their printmaking unit, making sure their designed insects have all the correct parts.

1st Grade - Our experimentation into tempera techniques and our secondary color schemes are making some very fun environments for aliens.

Kindergarten - “W” is for Wave. I am so proud of our kinders for taking on the challenge and exceeding expectations for their weavings. They have pushed themselves to weave with weft and warp, and when they got frustrated, they pushed through until they were proud of their accomplishments!

*We are gearing up for artworks to head home as our school year heads into the final month. If you have brown bags you could send to school with your students, it would be greatly appreciated.

Music Update - Ms. Dorr

Music Update from Ms. Dorr:

K-1 students practiced their rhythm writing by making a fun rhythm caterpillar craft after reading the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar!

2nd grade students will be starting a found sounds unit where we will be seeing what sounds can be created by what’s around us and making a composition with those sounds!

3-5 students are working hard learning the ukulele!

Phy-Ed Update - Mrs. Homman

Physical Education Update from Mrs. Homman:

Hello Lakeside Families!

This school year has brought many movement opportunities for students. We have practiced throwing and catching, tumbling skills, bowling etiquette, hockey skills, maneuvering through obstacle courses, roller skating, and so much more. Our final lessons this month will include archery (4th and 5th grades only) and striking with an implement - racket sports.

Looking to stay active this summer? The Oshkosh Rec Department has many course offerings for people of all ages. Click here to find all the programs available.

Make Screen Time Safe and Positive

If you are looking for some ways to access more reading over the summer check out Sora. Sora is an online library of ebooks and audiobooks that allows students to continue to check out digital books from anywhere! Check out these resources on how to set up Sora at home! The best way to connect to SORA is through our OASD website and clicking "Student" at the top to log into Classlink. Students will need to log in using their district username and password. Contact your student's teacher for that information if your child is not sure.

Adding the Public Library to Sora-If you are a Libby user you can add SORA library to your existing account.

Also! The Oshkosh Public Library has a wonderful summer reading program to explore. OPL is celebrating 150 years, be sure to tune into the activities they have going on this summer!

School Counselor Update - Mrs. Lubinski

School Counselor Update from Mrs. Lubinski:

There are so many wonderful things ALWAYS happening at Lakeside! This year is flying by!! I can’t believe we will be wrapping up this school year shortly!!

Kindergarten, third, fourth, and fifth graders have been learning great communication skills. Kindergarten and third grade focused on using these skills in healthy conflict resolution and in building friendships. Fourth and fifth grade have been learning about different communication styles. First and second graders have been learning about resiliency. All grades will end our counseling class time together this year with fun activities involving cooperation, teamwork, and celebration of our amazing class families. Fifth grade will also be taking a tour of South Park Middle School. We will miss the fifth grade class like crazy next year but they are going to do incredible things in middle school!

A huge THANK YOU to all the grown-ups who participated in taking Lightning to their place of employment this year! It has been such a fun activity for students to learn about different careers. Don’t worry if you didn’t get a chance to sign up this year because Lightning will be back again next year. We look forward to seeing all the places Lightning will go!

Health Office

End of the Year Update from the Health Office

All medications are to be picked up by the parent/guardian on or before the last day of
school. Kristin Mike, LPN, will be reaching out regarding parental consent to send home
over the counter medications (ie. cough drops) home with your student(s). Our policy
will not allow us to keep them for the next school year. If there is NO response regarding
the medication and they are not picked up/ sent home by the end of the day on the last
day of school, May 31st, the medication will be properly disposed of.

If your child has a current health plan or emergency plan on file with the school, you will
receive a copy during the summer to update for the upcoming school year.

If your child has a change in their health or has a healthcare need at school, please
email our school district nurse, Mikaila Peterson during the summer and she will contact
you at the beginning of the school year to discuss. Email: mikaila.peterson@oshkosh.k12.wi.us

If your child will need to take medication at school, please work with your doctor to have
the following form completed and signed before the start of the school year. As a
reminder, the directions on the medication bottle must match the written order on the
medication request form.

If you have a child with a severe allergy, asthma, or seizures the following forms will
need to be completed for our school nurse. Inhalers, Epi-Pens, Allergy medications, etc.,
must be in their original containers. Expiration dates will be monitored.

Tick Bites | Lyme Disease | MedlinePlus

It's tick season!

I know, it’s not something to be excited about, but we can learn about ticks to make tick season more tolerable. The beautiful playground and woods surrounding our school are the exact type of area that ticks love to live in. So, what can our students do to prevent ticks from attaching to their skin?

Students should watch for ticks on their clothes when entering the building in the morning and after any recess. If the tick is crawling on their skin or clothes they should remove the tick immediately and notify a teacher or recess supervisor. If a student finds a tick that is already attached to their skin they should come to the health office as soon as they notify their teacher. While we are unable to remove the attached tick at school, we will call and notify parents what we have found. Parents can then come to school and remove the tick or take the child home to remove the tick. Please remember that if you do remove an attached tick at home it is best to keep the tick in a clear baggie in case you later need to identify the type of tick.

Girl Empowerment | Girls on the Run | Nonprofit Girls On The RunGirls on the Run will be coming back to Lakeside this fall! Girls on the Run is a program for girls in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. The goal is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running. More information about Girls on the Run and how to sign-up will be coming in August. If you are interested in helping with this program as a coach or a running buddy, please reach out to Jen Lubinksi (jennifer.lubinski@oshkosh.k12.wi.us) or Kylene Schrage (kylene.schrage@oshkosh.k12.wi.us) for more information.

If you need to leave a voicemail, please state your student(s) full name, grade, reason for absence and also any symptoms your student may be experiencing. If you need to pick up your student early for an any reason, please notify the main office ahead of time, so we can make sure to have your student ready for you. Chaperone & Volunteering Reminders What Volunteer Opportunities are Available? - Ask a Librarian Delaware

Field trip season is here and if you are interested in chaperoning a field trip or volunteering by helping in your child's classroom, you must have a pre-approved volunteer application on file before the volunteering event. If you DID NOT fill out a volunteer application last year (23-24) please click HERE to begin the application process. All verified backgrounds checks are good for three years, and are effective for all OASD schools. Get Ready for the 2025-26 School Year!

The Oshkosh Area School District’s Annual Student Update (Enrollment/Registration) for returning K-12 students and for new 4K students will take place April 1 - September 1, 2025. Students must be enrolled by September 1. While the deadline is September 1, we encourage you to complete this process as soon as possible to secure your child's spot for the next school year.

Your child’s school for the 2025-2026 school year will be listed in IC. If you have recently moved or if you were involuntarily transferred due to space limitations at your home school,

please be sure to check this as it may be different from where your child is currently attending.

This annual enrollment process is mandatory, and your student's place at their school will be reserved for the upcoming academic year. You'll update your demographic and contact information through the Infinite Campus (IC) Parent Portal.
