Black Wolf Bulletin
December 1, 2023; Issue 7
Dear Lakeside Families,
As we approach a very busy time of year, remember to pause and notice your child. Notice their facial expressions, their emotions, their words- both about themselves and about others. It is so easy to overlook these things, especially during a stressful time of year. As a parent myself, I've been reminding myself that my kids are only little once and my job is to support their emotional and mental well-being in the best way I can. Noticing statements can make a huge difference in allowing your child to open up about what they are excited about or struggling with. Try saying, "I notice you're smiling a lot today. What's on your mind?" or "I noticed by the way your eyebrows are down, you seem frustrated. What's bothering you?" Your encouragement, positivity, and love can go a long way in helping your child feel noticed and loved, even during the busiest times of the year.
A few other notes for the month:
- We hope to see many families tonight at Brighton Acres from 5-6pm for our family engagement event! (The entire event goes from 4-8 pm and some teachers will be there at different times.) Your child(ren)'s ornament(s) are featured on some of the trees! Don't forget to vote for the Lakeside trees at this event!
- Remember that we do not have a holiday concert this year. We will have a spring concert instead. We recently hired a music teacher for the second semester! Ms. Emily Dorr will be starting with us the week of January 22.
- Please read the rest of the newsletter below. There is much more information about upcoming events in our school this month!
Wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead,
~Mrs. Ashton
Lakeside Family Fun at Brighton Acres - December 1st
Lakeside students made holiday ornaments that were used to decorate a holiday tree as part of Brighton Acres' Christmas Village and Craft Fair. We're also inviting our families to join Lakeside staff for some holiday fun at Brighton Acres tonight, December 1st from 4-8pm. Click HERE for more information about this fun event!
Brighten Someone's Holiday!
Lakeside's "Brighten Someone's Holiday" tree is back again this year and located in the main entrance. If you would like to purchase any of the items for this year's selected Lakeside families, please come to the office to select a paper mitten (with an item written on it) from the tree. Please then return the mitten with the gift. This will help with organization of the gifts as they are colored coded for each family. Please have the gifts returned by Friday, December 15th at the latest. Again, there is no obligation, but any help is definitely appreciated! Please contact Mrs. Lubinski with any questions.
Happy Holidays!

Meet our new, fun, and exciting friend-LIGHTNING
This year a new friend will be joining the counseling program. His name is Lightning and he is Thunder’s (our mascot) best friend. Lightning loves to learn about careers and would love to learn about your career. Lightning would be thrilled to visit your workplace. Parents/Caregivers will have the opportunity to bring Lightning to their workplace and take a few photos of Lightning at work (be creative and have fun). Please email the photos to me and they will be shared with students as a fun way to learn about careers. After photos have been taken, families will return Lightning to school and Lightning will go home with the next family on the list. We hope that Lightning can visit lots of careers this year!!!

Volunteers Needed for Winter Craft in the Classroom!
Winter Craft in the Classrooms is the week December 15th-18th! This event is sponsored by our amazing PTO, and they are looking for volunteers to help in the classrooms as children assemble their crafts. The crafting will be happening in the afternoon during that week. If you are interested in helping, please email ptolakeside@gmail.com.
Girls On The Run
Lakeside Girls On The Run wrapped up their season with an incredible 5K. They all did fabulous! It was an exciting season filled with learning, running, and tons of fun! The girls also completed a community project. They chose to make thank you bags filled with cards and homemade crafts for local veterans.
Way to use your star power girls!!
Volunteering Reminders
As a reminder, if you are interested in volunteering by helping in your child's classroom or chaperoning a field trip, you must have a pre-approved volunteer application on file before the volunteering event. These applications are to be filled out each school year, but then are good for the remainder of the year, and are effective for all OASD schools. You can find the application HERE.
Important!: Once you have completed your application, let the office know so that we can request that the application be processed; this does not happen automatically, and can take up to 3-4 business, so please plan accordingly!
Student Council Coordinating a Food Drive
Lakeside Elementary school will be participating in the The Mid-Morning Kiwanis boxed/canned food drive which will take place from Friday, December 1st through Thursday, December 7th.
The food that is collected through this time period will be donated to the Oshkosh Salvation Army. If you choose to donate food, please bring it to school and add it to your classroom collection. It must consist of non-perishable food items (Examples: canned fruits, vegetables, soup, pasta, beans, boxed items).
Things that need to be refrigerated, and that will easily go bad (rot/mold) should not be donated. Things like, dairy products, fresh fruits, fresh produce, and frozen food, etc., are all things that will perish easily. Please do not donate any of these items.
Of course you do not have to donate but if you do we thank you for your support and donations!🎉
