Dear Lakeside Families,

Thank you for helping us start the school year with such energy and excitement. We are grateful for the way our students have settled in and the support you’ve shown to make these first weeks so successful.

As we continue building strong learning habits, we want to remind families of the importance of children getting good rest each night and establishing consistent routines at home. These simple practices make a big difference in helping students come to school ready to learn and grow.

We also want to thank everyone who attended conferences. Your time, commitment, and partnership are invaluable as we work together to support each child’s success.

At Lakeside, we are learning about and understanding the power of Unity and Perception. Together, we practice the power of Unity, which is knowing that we are stronger when we work as one school family, and the power of Perception, which is seeing challenges as opportunities to grow. These are the foundations that help us nurture both academic and social-emotional growth.

Looking ahead, we’re excited about our upcoming events: Movie Night (Oct 3 at 6:00 PM in the Gym), Winter Coat Drive (Oct 6 from 11:00 - close at TJ's Harbor), and PTO Meeting (Oct 14 at 3:00 PM in the Library).

Thanks again for being such an important part of our school community.

Sincerely,

Mr. King

Principal

Pollution Solution

Lakeside Elementary is partnering with NexTrex again this year. Information was sent home last week in folders. Our goal is to collect 1,000 lbs of plastic to receive a NexTrex bench. Anyone and everyone can donate plastic. The Pollution Solution Club is open to 4th and 5th grade students that will be weighing all the plastic each week and will be keeping everyone updated on our achievements towards the recycling goal. We have until April 2026 to reach our goal. You can drop off your plastic at Lakeside Elementary by door #11 or send with your child/ren. One NexTrex recycling bin is located inside door #11 and the other bin is located by the kitchen.

If you have any questions please email me at:

Thursday, September 29, 2022 Picture Retake Day - October 22nd!

Pictures from our picture day on September 17th should be arriving at school soon. If you ordered photos online or with a paper form on or before picture day, your package will come home with your student soon. If you did NOT order pictures, it's not too late! A proof sheet will come home with your student with an order link.

Don't like the photo? No problem! Lakeside's picture retake day is October 22nd. If you already ordered a package and want a retake, just send the photo package back to school with your child on the 22nd and your package will be re-created with the new photo. If you want a retake but haven't yet ordered, you can download the form HERE, or contact the office and we'll send one home with your student. Order forms need to be given to the photographer on the retake day in order to avoid shipping charges.

Oops Happens! Let's Keep Our Students ComfortableThe playground can be wet, muddy, and spills can happen any time of the year. Every day, students come to the health office needing a change of clothes—and we could really use your help! 👕👖👚

Here’s how you can help:

  • Send an extra change of clothes with your child (even the big kids!). Clothes can stay in their backpack or locker until needed. Everyone feels more comfortable in their own clothes, so this is a great way to be prepared. 👚👖

  • If your child borrows clothes from the office, please wash and return them quickly so they’re ready for the next student who might need them. 👕

  • Do you have outgrown pants or shirts you can donate? We especially need sizes 5 through 14/16. Please send any donations to the office! 👖👕

If your child has a fall or spill and we don’t have the right size available, we may need to call you to bring a change of clothes to school so they can get through the day comfortably.

Thank you for your support—we really appreciate it!

healthy habits

With cold and flu season upon us already, your child may have a sore throat, runny nose, headache etc. and you may want your child to bring cough drops, Tylenol  or other medications to school.  All medications need to be brought into the office and given in the office.  Your child should not keep any medications in their backpacks.  All medications need a signed medication form in the office.  If you would like a form to fill out, please call or email the office to send one home with your child.  It only takes a minute to fill out!

Please remind your child to cover their mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, and most importantly...WASH HANDS!!!  Washing hands can prevent the spread of diseases.

Your child should stay home if they have any of these symptoms: 100 degree temp or higher, vomiting, diarrhea, thick mucus from the nose, excessive drowsiness, undiagnosed rash or open sores, pain that interferes with learning such as; earache, red, itchy eyes with discharge, sore throat with difficulty swallowing or a persistent, productive cough.  This helps prevent the spread of illness to others in school.  If you child has any of these symptoms they should stay home and be free from symptoms for 24 hours before returning to school.

FRIENDLY REMINDER: When calling your child's school to report their absence, please relay the symptoms they are having to the school office so that the District can continue to track illness in the school and within classrooms.

Please call or email with any questions!

Volunteering

If you are interested in volunteering by helping in your child's classroom or chaperoning a field trip, you must have a pre-approved volunteer application on file before the volunteering event. If you HAVE NOT filled out a volunteer application please click HERE to begin the application process. If you are unsure of your volunteer status, please email Kylene Schrage. All verified backgrounds checks are good for three years, and are effective for all OASD schools. If you have any questions about this process, please contact our school office at 920.424.0131 or kylene.schrage@oshkosh.k12.wi.us

Important!: Once you have completed your application, let the office know so that we can request that the application be processed; this does not happen automatically, and can take up to 48 hours, so please plan accordingly!

Arrival Procedures

Due to the location of Lakeside being on a major highway, children are not allowed to walk or ride bikes to school. Parents are encouraged to have their children ride the bus to ensure they will arrive at the same time as the
other students. Buses will unload on the east side of the building for arrival and dismissal. Buses will be unloaded at Lakeside at 7:15 a.m. by a recess supervisor. Upon arrival at school, children will go to the
playground. After school, buses will be loaded by 2:50 p.m.

When dropping off students at Lakeside, please drive in the north entrance. Park in a space along the north side (facing the building) near Door #10 and walk your child to the supervisor near the playground.  Adults are not allowed on the playground unless they have checked into the office and are wearing a badge.

Dismissal Procedures

Busing is the way most Lakeside students get home at the end of the day. If you want to pick up your child(ren), please park in a stall, facing the school; exit your vehicle and notify the staff outside who you are picking up. Students in grades K-3 will exit through Door #11. Students in grades 4-5 will exit through Door #10.
If a child is not picked up by 2:50 p.m., we will make a phone call home or to an emergency contact.

A phone call to the secretary or an email to the secretary and teacher is necessary if:
● Your child’s normal after school plan is changing
● Your child is being picked up by another parent
● Your child is being picked up by someone other than their parent
● Your child is planning to ride another bus
● Your child is staying for an afterschool activity

*Telling your child is not sufficient. You must provide written notification or contact the office preferably before noon or as soon as possible so the proper individuals may be made aware of the special plans.
