Dear Lakeside Families,
We are excited for our upcoming Family Engagement Night next Thursday, Oct. 10. We look forward to seeing you there! Here is what you can expect:
-
Dinner will be from 4:30-5:15 pm. Come early to eat!
-
Classroom teachers will have presentations in their rooms from 5:30-6:00 pm. You won’t want to miss this great information!
-
Family activities and parent learning sessions will be held at 6:00 pm.
Our first Scholastic Book Fair of the year will be next week. The book fair will be open during Family Night on Thursday, Oct. 10 and also during lunch recess times (Tuesday-Friday) for students to purchase books.
Next Wednesday, Oct. 9 is our annual Walk AT School Day! Since Lakeside is a “country school”, students are not allowed to walk to school. We celebrate International Walk to School Day with a walk at school, around our building. Our walk will begin at 7:25am. Students and staff wear “workout” clothes as part of the celebrations. Safe Routes to School is a local organization that donates prizes to school to pass out to students that participate in walking events during the school day. Parents are welcome to sign in to the office and join our walk.
School safety is important to us. Parents, please don’t let other parents in the building without having them ring into the front office for security. Also, please stop in the office to sign in if you are going on the playground (make sure you sign out when leaving also). In the month of October, we will practice for an intruder emergency drill. We use the ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) framework in Oshkosh to respond to intruder drills. Students will learn more about the ALICE framework in the upcoming weeks and parents will receive a letter home with more details. School safety is a priority and keeping you informed of what is happening is necessary for a strong home-school partnership. Thank you for partnering with us and sending us your child(ren) each day!
Enjoy the weekend ahead!

Grades 3-8
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to share that our school district is implementing a math and reading assessment program for grades 3-8 called i-Ready. Below, you will find information on the program and how we will be using it in the classroom. i-Ready will support full implementation of our district adopted curriculum resources in math and literacy.
What is i-Ready?
i-Ready is an online assessment platform that will help us determine your child’s needs, personalize his or her learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child exactly where he or she is and provides data for us to increase your child’s learning gains.
The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s needs. Each item a student sees is individualized based on his or her answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade, but instead to determine how best to support your child’s learning in the classroom.
When will my child take the i-Ready assessment?
We will do this assessment three times per year so that teachers can use the student learning information to adjust instruction for your child.
