Dear Lakeside Families,
It's Teacher Appreciation Week! Let's celebrate virtually and tell our Lakeside staff just how amazing they are!
Here is the PTO plan for celebrations, please note where we need the help of our Lakeside students and families to make the days extra special!
Monday, May 4th- Mail it Monday: Each teacher will be given a gift card from the PTO
Tuesday, May 5th- Have your student write a note of gratitude or appreciation and send it to their classroom teacher and/or special education teacher via email.
Wednesday, May 6th- Have your student write a note of gratitude or appreciation to a specialist teacher like Art, Music, Physical Education, school counselor, instructional support teachers, etc.
Thursday, May 7th- Have your student write a note of gratitude or appreciation to other staff members, support staff, custodian, school nurse, principal, or any other adult in the building who has positively impacted their lives. If you’re having a hard time finding the right email for the right person, feel free to email those kind words to Mrs. Ashton and she will happily pass them along to the correct person! (The link is also below.)
Friday, May 8th- Flipgrid Friday: Please have your child use this link to send a video to a Lakeside staff member! These will be visible to all staff, students, and families!

Class Placement Requests for 2020-2021
Class lists are created with the belief that student needs are best met through heterogeneous/mixed groups that take into consideration such variables as student numbers, boy/girl ratios, student behaviors, and achievement levels. The services of our special education teachers and other academic specialists also impact a student’s placement. As a result, requests for classroom placements are usually not necessary.
The talents of our teachers at Lakeside are diverse. Matching teaching and learning styles requires appropriate knowledge of both the learner and the teacher. In addition, OASD Board Policy 5120 charges us with the important task of creating balanced classes. It also includes this statement in the policy: “Parent/guardian request for assignment of students to specific teachers prior to receiving notice of placement will be carefully limited to assure an equal opportunity for all students.”
If parents still would like to submit a request, they must base the request upon a legitimate need of the student. If a parent has an educational reason to support a classroom placement, the following guidelines should be followed:
-
Please submit an electronic Request for Specific Teacher or Class Prior to Assignment form, stating the reasons why such a placement is important for your child's education.
-
All requests should be received in the office no later than Friday, May 15, 2020. No requests received after this date will be honored.
Due to the need to balance classes, distribute learning abilities, place students together in workable groups, and numerous other variables that must be considered, we are unable to guarantee that requests will be honored. Thank you for your understanding as we move forward to create great learning environments for ALL students!
