Dear Lakeside Families,

Welcome back! We have had a wonderful first week at Lakeside! Our first priority this week has been building relationships with our students and getting to know each other. Our mission is to build joyful, safe, caring classroom communities and a joyful, safe, caring school community. We continue to teach how to be respectful, responsible, and safe, and have incorporated new social/emotional curriculum, called Sanford Harmony, into our daily practice. Classrooms are focusing on the importance of community. We can’t wait to tell you more about this curriculum and how it is woven into the daily conversations, practices, and content areas.

  • Please join us for the first PTO meeting of the school year on Monday, September 9 at 6 pm in the library! The Boys and Girls Club provides childcare for children ages 3 and up.

  • Our first Family Involvement Night of the year is on Thursday, October 10. Look for more information coming home soon!

  • Lakeside’s holiday concert is Monday, December 9th at Alberta Kimball Auditorium at West High School!

I look forward to working each Lakeside family again this year. If you ever have questions, concerns, or positive comments to share, please call, email, or set up a time to meet. I am happy to serve you in any way I can!  Enjoy the weekend ahead!

News From the Office

  • Reminder! Our first Early Release day is Wednesday, September 18. Students will be dismissed at 12:30pm. If your child’s after school plans are different on early release, please make sure you write down the change and submit to your child’s classroom teacher.

  • Student hours for 2019-20 are 7:45am-2:45pm. The bell rings at 7:40 to bring children in the building and they should be in their classrooms by 7:45. All children should enter the building from the playground at 7:40. If children are dropped off after 7:40, parents should walk them to Door #1 to enter the building.

  • If you are dropping your child off in the morning, please remember you can not arrive before 7:20 am. We do not have supervision until 7:20 am. To drop off, remember to park in a stall near Door #10 and help your child out of the car, so that your car door doesn’t hit another car door. A supervisor will be there to help direct children to the playground. Adults are not allowed on the playground unless you sign in in the office.

  • Children are not allowed in the parking lot without an adult. Adults who park in the lot after school should meet their child by Door #11 for pick up.

  • When calling your child in for the day you can reach our voicemail 24 hours a day. It does ring several times before going to voicemail, so please stay on the line.

  • We love to have volunteers in our classrooms and on field trips! Volunteer background checks are required for each school year and must be submitted online. We look forward to having many volunteers in school this year!

  • School Picture Day is Thursday, September 26 in the a.m. Picture order forms are coming home today!

  • Tri-County Dental Clinic is scheduled at Lakeside Elementary, Monday, October 21 in the  a.m. Please watch the video for details if interested. Forms will be sent home in early October.

Dear Lakeside Families,

We are excited for our upcoming Family Engagement Night next Thursday, Oct. 10. We look forward to seeing you there! Here is what you can expect:

  • Dinner will be from 4:30-5:15 pm. Come early to eat!

  • Classroom teachers will have presentations in their rooms from 5:30-6:00 pm. You won’t want to miss this great information!

  • Family activities and parent learning sessions will be held at 6:00 pm.

Our first Scholastic Book Fair of the year will be next week. The book fair will be open during Family Night on Thursday, Oct. 10 and also during lunch recess times (Tuesday-Friday) for students to purchase books.

Next Wednesday, Oct. 9 is our annual Walk AT School Day! Since Lakeside is a “country school”, students are not allowed to walk to school. We celebrate International Walk to School Day with a walk at school, around our building. Our walk will begin at 7:25am. Students and staff wear “workout” clothes as part of the celebrations. Safe Routes to School is a local organization that donates prizes to school to pass out to students that participate in walking events during the school day. Parents are welcome to sign in to the office and join our walk.

School safety is important to us. Parents, please don’t let other parents in the building without having them ring into the front office for security. Also, please stop in the office to sign in if you are going on the playground (make sure you sign out when leaving also). In the month of October, we will practice for an intruder emergency drill. We use the ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) framework in Oshkosh to respond to intruder drills. Students will learn more about the ALICE framework in the upcoming weeks and parents will receive a letter home with more details. School safety is a priority and keeping you informed of what is happening is necessary for a strong home-school partnership. Thank you for partnering with us and sending us your child(ren) each day!

Enjoy the weekend ahead!

Grades 3-8

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are excited to share that our school district  is implementing a math and reading assessment program for grades 3-8 called i-Ready. Below, you will find information on the program and how we will be using it in the classroom. i-Ready will support full implementation of our district adopted curriculum resources in math and literacy.

What is i-Ready?

i-Ready is an online assessment  platform that will help us determine your child’s needs, personalize his or her learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child exactly where he or she is and provides data for us to increase your child’s learning gains.

The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s needs. Each item a student sees is individualized based on his or her answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade, but instead to determine how best to support your child’s learning in the classroom.

When will my child take the  i-Ready assessment?

We will do this assessment three times per year so that teachers can use the student learning information to adjust instruction for your child.
