Alternative Education Programs
The Oshkosh Area School District has established a number of alternative education program options designed to meet the unique educational needs of students who have struggled to find success in a traditional school setting. Please click on the links below to learn more about our district wide programs. Some schools may also have program options that are unique to their building site. If you have questions related to any of the district’s alternative education programs, please contact Matt Kaemmerer, Director of Student Services.
New Start Program
The New Start Program provides an alternative pathway to graduation for students who are not on track to graduate with their grade level peers. This GED Option #2 Program allows the OASD to use the GED test battery to measure academic proficiency in lieu of students earning high school credits. New Start students who pass the GED tests and complete all other OASD graduation requirements are entitled to a traditional diploma from their home high school. Supportive Service Options
Every school in the Oshkosh Area School District uses a Response to Instruction (RTI) model to address the unique educational needs of each student. The district’s RTI model incorporates a multi-level system of support that includes a variety of strategies, modifications, accommodations, interventions and programs that are available to all students at all levels. Students who are identified as being in need of additional support are referred to the school’s CARE Team. The CARE Team is made up of school administrators, student service staff, and other school staff members who have a legitimate educational interest in the student. The CARE Team utilizes a problem solving process to develop educational plans for students structured around their individual area(s) of need. For more information on the district’s RTI model or CARE Team process, please contact Kim Brown, Director of Learning.
